Have you ever wondered how to deepen your key lay leaders’ theological foundations, equipping them to take a more significant leadership role in your church? Would you be interested in a course that could be exactly what you and they are looking for?
Have you noticed that the church at large is becoming more racially diverse, that more churches led by diaspora leaders are being planted than ever before, or that churches that are becoming more ethnically diverse are attracting more people? Then you might be interested in equipping yourself or your key leaders with a course for multicultural ministry in your own church.
The courses are the brainchild of Dr Harvey Kwiyani, of the Church Mission Society and TFH’s Church Planting Coalition, who is starting a Liverpool School of Theology in the city this autumn.
Ahead of the start of the first term – of which more below – you are invited to a leaders’ event to find out more about the school and how you can get involved.
The event will take place between 1 and 3pm at Frontline Church in Wavertree on Thursday August 21st and lunch will be provided.
Malawian missiologist and theologian Dr Kwiyani, who has lived, worked and studied in Europe and North America for the past 20 years, said: “The Liverpool School of Theology comes out of a calling to respond to a need in the city.
“It’s about theological education and leadership training for church members. In a time of revival like now, both these are critical.”
The school will run two modules in 2025:
Theological Foundations for Successful Christian Living (hybrid)
This is for church members wanting to know more than a Sunday sermon can allow for.
Christian Service in Multicultural Contexts
This is a fully online ground-level leadership course for people thinking about multicultural/intercultural churches.
Book onto the leaders’ lunch here
Dr Kwiyani is also starting a new church plant in Liverpool in September.
He said: “Jabula is a new church plant, seeking to be multicultural from the start, but with a specific focus on university students (and young professionals) in the city.
“We will meet on Sundays at Liverpool Lighthouse at 4pm. The word ‘Jabula’ means ‘rejoice.’ We are embedding in our DNA a conviction that we are a message of joy to the city.
“We are keen to speak with any people in the TFH network interested in multicultural church planting in the city. We want our church planting team to be as diverse as the city itself.”
Jabula will meet every Sunday from September 28th at 4pm at Liverpool Lighthouse, Oakfield Rd, Liverpool L4 0UF.

After a short break, Nic Harding is back with a new series of Leadership Conversations – and the first one certainly sets the bar high.
Nic’s guest is Nic Findlay, who works for Scripture Union in Merseyside.
You’ll discover how a high-flying Cambridge graduate ended up working in one of the most deprived areas of Liverpool with children and young people. You’ll be encouraged by how she has integrated her own children into the ministry.
And those of you of a certain age will enjoy the Dr Finlay’s Casebook reference at the end.
(And do connect with Nic F if you want help in working with children and young people – NicF@scriptureunion.org.uk)
City Reaching Faith with Nic Harding and Brian McCarthy
Nic went from interviewer to interviewee recently, telling Brian McCarthy of the terrific Turn2Wisdom podcast about City Reaching prayer.
Nic and Brian explore how God speaks – through Scripture, through people, through our everyday lives – and how God can guide us in the greatest of our life decisions and help us to recover from even monumental consequences.
Jesus told us we will have tribulation. Knowing the Truth isn’t always plain sailing, but it will set you free to be all that God created you to be.
You can watch the full interview on YouTube above, or as a podcast wherever you get your podcasts. The latest interview in the series is with our very own Sue Sinclair.

What a weekend to remember! Almost 200 people enjoyed a weekend of celebration at the second Jesus in the Park festival of the summer.
The event, at Newsham Park in Tuebrook (by the children’s playground), started on Friday (July 18th) at 6pm, with Saturday’s activities getting underway at 1pm.
Jesus in the Park was a powerful reminder that church isn’t just a building, it’s about people loving, serving, and reaching out together.
Pastor Chi of RCCG Dominion Assembly in Tuebrook, which organised the event, said: “Glory to God for the wonderful success of the Jesus in the Park event!
“I wish to specially thank everyone and other volunteers from various Churches who worked together for the success of this outreach. The Lord will bless you all abundantly, in Jesus’ name.”
Head of planning Kenny added: “Jesus in the Park was truly a Holy Spirit-filled celebration!
“The community came alive in faith, fun, and fellowship, thanks to the welcoming atmosphere, uplifting worship, powerful testimonies, soul-stirring messages, outstanding hospitality, and the joyful children having a great time. The event was a vibrant testimony to God’s love, saving grace, and the joy and unity in Christ, cutting across all Churches.”
Children’s charity Kids Matter is holding a free breakfast event in Liverpool this autumn.
Kids Matter equips mums, dads and carers with the confidence, competence and community they need to build strong relationships and strong families and reduce the impact of poverty on their children.
The breakfast event is for church leaders, children and family workers, community volunteers, and local headteachers and their incumbents who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of families facing disadvantages.
There’ll be a free breakfast, space for honest conversation, a short presentation, and the opportunity to hear how Kids Matter partners with Liverpool churches and communities.
Kids Matter’s Lynne Ryder said: “What if the local church could be the answer to the silent struggles of parents at every school gate and behind closed doors? We believe it can – and we’d love you to come and hear how.”
When? Tuesday 21st October, 2025. Time TBC
